Hello

My name is Gillian Bradshaw. I am a 5th grade teacher at the Dorsetshire Hill Government School. I am hoping to have a fruitful and successful course with all participants.

  1. Our schoool population is rather small with a count of approximately 65 students. I am the IT coordinator at my school. It is a bit challenging working with students whose netbooks are not functioning for reasons beyond my control. I try as much as possible to do group work so that each student has the opportunity to complete their tasks especially in the notes subjects. Also students in my school are given topics to research so that they can be in charge of their own learning and the information would be more meaningful to them. However lots of students rather play games on their netbooks. We do not have a computer lab which I think would be quite beneficial but we do have a multimedia projector. Our classrooms are open and separated by chalkboards which might be a distraction to other classes where using computers are involved.
The teachers try as much as possible to integrate ICT in their lessons. However it is not done on a daily basis (even I am guilty of this). I personally use ICT to search for support material and researching information for planning my lessons, even when I am on the go (Blackberry). Teachers at my school try their utmost best with the few resources that we have.
